Curriculum

At PNS we strive to foster gross motor and fine motor development, social and emotional development, verbal expression, visual skills, auditory skills and cognitive development.

The PNS curriculum is a developmentally appropriate multi-cultural program with many opportunities for hands-on experience. There is a strong emphasis on socialization and language. A typical day may include story, song, finger play, music, blocks, easel work, imaginary play (kitchen, dress-up, loft), simple science, nature, math (sorting, categorizing and graphing) , puzzles, play dough, water table and sand table.  The children are provided with a variety of materials and media. We also teach our children self-help skills, problem- solving skills and encourage independence, compassion and empathy.

Our facility is well equipped and we always have opportunity for gross motor play. We use our recently remodeled playground and bike track daily, weather permitting. If we cannot go outside, there is a full-sized gym available.

We enhance our curriculum with in-house visitors (i.e. Officer Friendly, Firefighters) and field trips—pumpkin picking and visits to a corn maze, a tree farm,  or the  Sacred Heart University Theater. Typically, the 3’s take one field trip per year in the spring. The 4’s participate in an autumn and spring class trip and Pre-K goes on field trips once in autumn, once in winter and once in spring.

Our goal is to provide a nurturing and enriching preschool experience where children develop a love of learning.
